ANTIQUE PHOTOGRAPH MISSIONARIES EMIGRANTS ON SHIP C1900
The photo measures 7 by 5 inches and has no identification as to the group or the photographer. Why this photo was taken is a mystery to me. The mount is gilt edged like a cabinet card and I would say is right in the C.C. period. The man sitting in the prime frontal position appears to have a backwards collar and could be a man of the cloth. The Orientals in Western dress could be his missionary entourage or were they all emigrants? Don’t forget that at this time it was expensive to get a photographer out and produce a mounted photo of this quality so this picture commemorates a significant event in history.

Although the real photo cabinet card is undated, cabinet cards are considered to be C1880. This card shows two young boys posing with tennis rackets and a ball. This is a wonderful picture, showing what appear to be two young brothers in their fantasy sailor suits; the older with his upside down Admiral's cuff insignia and pseudo Navy leading hand's badge on his upper sleeve. The picture was taken by Lock & Whitfield, 178 Regent St. London and is in excellent condition.
